Japanese is here.
There was the blue sky above him, the blue sea below him. A high priest found a spring
at the foot of the mountain-which-has-five-tops. Being impressed by pure water, he built a
Buddhist temple and planted eight chestnut trees. This is the legend of the priest 'Koh
Boh-Daishi' or 'Kuukai', and the Yakuri temple in Sanuki, which regularly visited by
pilgrims. This spring was well-known for making liquor (sake) and soy sauce. A climate - high temperature and low humidity - brings good salt and the fruits of the sea. They say the Sanuki-Udon (Japanese noodles from Sanuki) are made from the best of materials.....and the legend. |
Sanuki is now called Kagawa, one of the prefectures (provinces) of Japan.
